DIY: Beeswax Lip Balm!

Another thing I whipped up this weekend, lip balm! It was my first time making it, in the past I’ve made a lot of body butters, body scrubs, lip scrubs, etc… But have never attempted Lip Balm, even though it’s ridiculously easy. Make some of your own with this easy little instructional, this is how I made mine but feel free to tweak your recipe to your liking 🙂 As long as you have beeswax, essential oils, and a carrier oil, it doesn’t matter!

What you will need:
– Empty containers, preferably something you can get your finger into like the one I’ve used above. I’ve also made use of empty compacts for such a reason! This recipe should give you 4+ Lip balms.
– Beeswax
– Coconut Oil
– Hemp Oil
– Essential Oils of your preferred scent (I used Spearmint and Wintergreen)
– A microwave safe bowl (Unless you have a double boiler and prefer to do it that way)
– A small funnel for pouring your lip balm

Measurements:
On my first go my lip balm came out too wax-y and not nearly oily enough, the consistency you want is a solid that will melt slightly as you’re rubbing it. Here are the measurements I used.
– 2 table spoons of beeswax
– 2 table spoons of coconut oil
– 1 table spoon of hemp oil
– 5 drops of spearmint oil
– 5 drops of wintergreen oil

How to mix it:
– First you will want to melt your wax and coconut oil, to do this I put the wax in a microwave safe bowl and continuously microwaved it at 30 seconds each time, checking in between, until it was nearly melted. Then I added my 2 tbsp of Coconut Oil and continued to microwave at 30 second intervals until the entire mixture of wax and coconut oil was pure liquid, no chunks.
– Next I added my remaining oils (Hemp, Spearmint, Wintergreen) and stirred thoroughly
– Using my funnel, I poured the mixture into my containers, filling it to the brim
– Set them out to air dry and harden on the counter, this does not take very long, do not put them in the freezer as this will cause them to sweat and not harden properly.

Voila! Once they have hardened you’re free to use them! If you find the product is too soft or too hard, you can melt the product back down and add more oil or wax to counteract this. If the product is too solid, add more oil. If it’s too soft, add more wax. 🙂

DIY: Hemp Oil Facial/Hair Oil

I had a really great weekend doing tons of crafty and artsy fartsy things. I have been slacking in that department for a long time. They had always been more than hobbies for me, they were literally my medicine, my soul cleansing me-time. I feel so GOOD about all the things I did this weekend that I feel inclined to share it with you guys. I will be sharing them in a series of posts over the next few days! I considered doing one big clusterfuck post of all the DIYs I did this weekend but for the sake of organization and not overwhelming my followers, I’ve decided to give it to you in small doses. 🙂

Okay so this one is probably the most minimal effort thing I did this weekend, but somehow I was most excited about it. I’ve been having nasty acne outbreaks lately so I wanted to find a completely natural way to combat it. Hemp Oil is incredibly beneficial for your skin, with lots of fatty omega 3’s, disinfectant properties, and quick absorption, this was a no brainer carrier oil for me. It’s great for people with sensitive skin.

What you need:
– A small, empty bottle to hold your product
– Hemp Oil
– Tea Tree Oil
– Other Essential Oils of your preference!
– Probably a funnel (unless you’re feeling brave)

How to Mix them:
– Fill your bottle 2/3 of the way with your Hemp Oil
– Add 5-7 drops of Tea Tree Oil (Keep in mind this oil can be very potent, but has incredible benefits)
– Add 2-3 drops of the Essential Oil of your choice, personally I chose Lavender and Lemongrass as they both have great effects on the skin and smell lovely!
– Replace the lid to the bottle and shake the shit out of it to ensure the essential oils are thoroughly diluted.

How to Use:
Using it is really simple, cover the opening with your finger and tip to saturate your finger in the oil, or use a dropper if you prefer. Then massage the desired amount onto clean skin. I use the excess on my finger tips to massage into my scalp to promote healthy hair growth! Hemp Oil and Tea Tree Oil are both infamously great for hair.

Shelf Life / Expiry:
Hemp Oil tends to have a low shelf life (in my opinion), so be sure to write it down somewhere so you don’t end up using spoiled product. To increase the shelf life of your products, you might choose a brown bottle instead of a clear one, to preserve the oils.
